When I moved from New York City to the Southern California Desert, I traded penthouses for palm trees, English gardens for desertscapes. I find that Iām influenced by everything desert all around me. The blue skies (not much sky in skyscraper), the sage grey/green of Agave and olive trees, the rusts and oranges of Spanish tile, the deep fuchsia of Bougainvillea, and the contrast of royal blue and brilliant orange in Bird Of Paradise. There is no end of textures in the desert, from prickly cactus, to rubbery succulents, and frilly lavender. All this and much more has colored and influenced my designs, and made me appreciate Desert Cool!
